Aller au chagrin

Aller au chagrin
By Valérie Sourdieux, 2011

The work revolves around a past memory. It's mainly an allegory centered around dark, subterranean matter rising to the surface, like a buried memory that suddenly resurfaces. Symbols are the instruments of the imaginary which provide reality with an anchor point.

Aller au Chagrin which is charged with poetic and metaphorical meaning is a way of investing

the earth and the vestiges of the past. It is about considering the descent before the ascent, what we can draw from the depths in order to feed the surface. It is about evoking underground life through images, a hidden part brought to light. Thus several significant tracks have therefore been condidered. The images attempt to reflect this buried part which draws its source from an objective reality. A kind of game between the real and the imaginary, the meaning signified and significant, the visible and the invisible, what is hidden and what shows through.
